Chaib Calls for Unified Islamic World Response to Crises

Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Soufiane Chaib, urged the Islamic world to unify its position and strengthen coordination and solidarity among Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states. Speaking at the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad, Iraq, Mr. Chaib highlighted the necessity of this unity to confront escalating international and regional crises and conflicts. He emphasized that adopting dialogue and peaceful settlement of disputes, alongside respecting international law, state sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, is crucial.
During his address, Mr. Chaib reaffirmed Algeria's consistent support for the Palestinian cause, underscoring its commitment to the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. He called for unified positions and practical measures to counter illicit practices by occupation authorities, particularly those targeting Jerusalem's historical and legal status. Furthermore, efforts to alleviate the dire humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip were stressed.
Mr. Chaib also underlined the importance of bolstering solidarity with OIC member states facing conflicts and crises, intensifying efforts to combat Islamophobia and hate speech, and fostering economic and developmental cooperation among Islamic nations. Such collaboration is intended to serve shared interests and enhance the OIC's role and effectiveness in addressing current challenges. The session concluded with the adoption of the Baghdad Declaration and a series of resolutions covering political, economic, and developmental matters, including the Palestinian issue and support for various member states.
