Mokhtar Dedouche, Algeria’s Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industry, emphasized the significant role traditional industry plays in bolstering national income and providing employment opportunities, especially for the country’s youth.
During the inauguration of National Artisan Day events at the Hotel El Djazair, Dedouche revealed that Algeria’s traditional industry sector has registered nearly 460,000 active businesses. These activities have generated over 1.18 million jobs across the nation, marking the sector as a substantial contributor to employment.
Additionally, Dedouche noted that the traditional industry sector’s contribution to Algeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) exceeds 350 billion Algerian dinars, highlighting its role in diversifying the economy beyond oil and gas.
The minister also announced that, for the first time, Algeria has been invited as the guest of honor at the 28th International Traditional Industry Exhibition in Milan, Italy, set to take place at the end of November. He encouraged all interested artisans to take part in this prestigious event.
