African Rowing Championship: Algeria Wins 19 Medals

Algiers – The Algerian national rowing team, comprising both men and women, concluded its participation in the African Rowing Championship held in Egypt, with an impressive tally of 19 medals. The team secured 2 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 10 bronze medals, as reported by the Algerian Rowing Federation on Sunday.

The two gold medals were claimed by Sabriya Boukhous in the Women’s Lightweight Single Sculls (Under 23 category) on the first day of the competition, and by the duo of Ferial Zitouni and Sabriya Boukhous in the Women’s Double Sculls (Under 23 category) on Saturday.

The Algerian team also earned 7 silver medals in various categories. Zakaria Kasmi took silver in the Men’s Heavyweight Single Sculls (Under 23 category), while Lahlo Ben Salah claimed silver in the Men’s Lightweight Single Sculls (Under 23 category). Abdelhamid Naijaïa and Dhab Allah Aissani won silver in the Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls (Junior category), and Abdelnour Zouad and Seif Eddine Ghanoush took silver in the Men’s Heavyweight Double Sculls (Senior category). Additionally, the Algerian Women’s Quadruple Sculls team, consisting of Ferial Zitouni, Sabriya Boukhous, Amira Sbouh, and Shaima Hilal Braun, won a silver medal, along with the Algerian Men’s Quadruple Sculls team (Senior category).

The Algerian team also secured 10 bronze medals. The winners include:

  • Fatih Aymen in the Men’s Heavyweight Single Sculls (Senior category),
  • Aissani Dhab Allah in the Men’s Single Sculls (Under 23),
  • Hilal Braun Shaima in the Women’s Lightweight Single Sculls (Senior category),
  • Bilel Belhadj and Chamseddine Bougmia in the Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls,
  • Amira Sbouh in the Women’s Heavyweight Single Sculls (Senior category),
  • Malak Haddadou in the Women’s Single Sculls (Under 23),
  • Ferial Zitouni in the Women’s Heavyweight Single Sculls (Under 23),
  • Zakaria Kasmi and Mohamed Chérif Boukhous in the Men’s Heavyweight Single Sculls (Under 23),
  • Mohamed Bousif Belhaj in the Men’s Lightweight Single Sculls (Senior category),
  • The Men’s Quadruple Sculls team (Senior category).

Algeria was represented by a total of 17 rowers in the African Rowing Championship (12 men and 5 women), competing alongside nine other nations: Egypt (the host country), Tunisia, Libya, Namibia, Benin, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Morocco, and Sudan. The competition also featured Beach Rowing, an Olympic sport, where Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, South Africa, Namibia, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe, Benin, and Uganda participated.
