Algerian Scientific Diaspora Mobilizes for National Progress
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has called upon Algeria's intellectual elites, extending an invitation to elite scientists to actively contribute to the nation's development. This emphasis underscores the requirement for their involvement in both current and prospective national growth. The High Council for the National Scientific Community Abroad was formed as part of this effort, with Minister Badari affirming that Algerian competencies residing abroad are considered partners in the national development process during the Council's inaugural meeting.
The High Council, under the presidency of Professor Elias Zerhouni, has commenced its operational phase. Its members met with President Tebboune and held their first organizational meeting on August 4, 2026. During these initial sessions, the Council is actively engaged in preparing a comprehensive roadmap designed to channel the expertise of the Algerian diaspora towards national development priorities.
Professor Zerhouni stated the Council's intent to dedicate its expertise to the country, highlighting its foundational principles. These include a commitment to close coordination with the national scientific community, ensuring that no initiative operates in isolation. The Council also seeks to expand its pool of experts by mobilizing all qualified Algerian scientists globally, thereby broadening the collective intellectual capital available. Furthermore, a core principle is the dedication to national priorities, reflecting the diaspora's desire to fully participate in Algeria's development endeavors.
