ADC, ADE Ink Pacts for Water Security

Algérienne des Eaux (ADE) and Société Algérienne de Dessalement de l’Eau (ADC), a subsidiary of the Sonatrach group, formally concluded a series of water sales and purchase contracts on Thursday in Algiers. The agreements, signed at the Ministry of Hydrocarbons headquarters, aim to finalize the contractual framework between the two entities and enhance the integration between desalinated water production and its subsequent distribution. The signing ceremony was overseen by key officials, including the general secretaries of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and the Ministry of Finance, alongside the inspector general of the Ministry of Hydraulics.

These comprehensive contracts encompass the output from five major ADC seawater desalination plants strategically located in El Tarf, Béjaïa, Boumerdès, Tipasa, and Oran. These facilities are part of the second complementary seawater desalination program, a significant national initiative mandated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. All installations included in this program have been operational since the beginning of 2025, contributing to the nation's water infrastructure.

The primary objective of these contractual arrangements is to ensure the stable and continuous operation of the desalination infrastructure, safeguarding their technical availability and efficiency. By protecting substantial public investments, the agreements are designed to optimize the exploitation of these stations' production capacities and guarantee the uninterrupted provision of public water services. This strategic move aligns with the broader governmental efforts to bolster national water security through enhanced coordination between entities responsible for water production and distribution.
