Customs Unveils Tool for Vehicle Import Duty Estimation

Algerian Customs has introduced a new online simulator and mobile application designed to assist citizens in calculating estimated duties and taxes for imported vehicles. Launched on November 25, 2025, this digital service is accessible via the ALCES portal (alces.douane.gov.dz) and as a dedicated mobile application, providing a convenient tool for both new and used vehicle imports.

The simulator caters to Algerian residents and Algerians returning permanently to the country, allowing them to anticipate costs. The calculation of duties and taxes is influenced by several factors, including the vehicle's type, engine size, age, and country of origin. To use the tool, individuals need to input details such as the vehicle's purchase invoice amount, transport costs, and key technical specifications, including engine displacement and first registration date. The simulator then guides users through selecting the vehicle type, entering financial figures, and providing customs regime, HS, and currency codes, converting amounts to Algerian Dinars and displaying a detailed breakdown of the estimated costs.

This initiative offers a valuable estimation, allowing users to gain clarity on potential expenses prior to importation. While the simulator provides an indicative figure, offering transparency and planning capabilities, the final duty amounts are officially determined by customs services upon documentation review. Users are advised to perform simulations close to the purchase date to account for any regulatory updates, particularly in light of potential changes outlined in the 2027 finance law, which will be integrated into the system upon adoption.
