Egypt Hosts Talks for Algeria-Echaâb Media Pact

Algerian Communication Minister Mohamed Bouslimani recently conducted a visit to the Egyptian press institution Al-Ahram in Cairo. The visit occurred on the sidelines of his participation in the 56th session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, which convened at the General Secretariat of the Arab League. During his engagement, Minister Bouslimani toured various departments of the prominent Egyptian newspaper, engaging with officials and journalists to gain insights into its operational management and strategies for maintaining its media standing amidst the challenges posed by digital competition and artificial intelligence.

A central focus of Minister Bouslimani's discussions with Mohamed Fayez Farahat, President of Al-Ahram's Board of Directors, was the enhancement of media cooperation between Algeria and Egypt. Both parties explored the prospect of establishing a formal cooperation agreement between the Algerian daily Echaâb and Al-Ahram. This potential partnership seeks to elevate media relations to the level of the existing political ties between the two nations, in line with the expressed orientations of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi.

The proposed agreement is intended to pave the way for strengthened exchanges and a broader partnership between the two significant press institutions. This initiative underscores Algeria’s commitment to fostering robust bilateral ties and promoting collaboration within the Arab media landscape. The broader Council of Arab Information Ministers session, which Minister Bouslimani attended, addressed crucial topics including media support for the Palestinian cause, combating disinformation, adapting media to technological changes, and enhancing digital sovereignty, highlighting the region's collective efforts toward media development and cooperation.
