President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria has authorized the deployment of National People's Army units to Niger, a decision announced by his office. This strategic move aims to ensure the security of joint facilities and provide essential assistance within the neighboring West African nation.
The deployment received formal approval from the Algerian Parliament, with President Tebboune subsequently signing a decree to enact the measure. This initiative underscores Algeria's commitment to regional stability, particularly as Niger's authorities contend with an attempted mutiny in the capital. To bolster these efforts, four Su-30 fighter jets from the Algerian Air Force have also arrived in the Nigerien capital.
This marks the first instance of Algerian troops being deployed abroad, signifying a notable development in the nation's foreign policy and security posture. The mission focuses on safeguarding shared assets and offering support to the Nigerien government, reinforcing bilateral cooperation and addressing immediate security challenges.
