MCA Aims for Champions League Glory After Draw
Algerian football clubs MC Alger and USM Alger have learned their group stage opponents in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, respectively, following yesterday's draw in Cairo. CR Belouizdad's conditional placement in the Confederation Cup was also announced.
The draws for the group stages of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup were conducted yesterday in Cairo, Egypt, setting the stage for Algeria's representatives in the continental competitions. MC Alger, the sole Algerian participant in the CAF Champions League group phase, discovered its adversaries for the prestigious tournament it aims to win.
MC Alger was placed in Group B of the Champions League, described as a highly competitive group. Their opponents include Egyptian club Zamalek, Tanzania's Young Africans, and Club Africain from Tunisia. This group is anticipated to feature thrilling North African derbies. The Mouloudia d'Alger is scheduled to play its first group stage match between November 27 and 29, having secured its spot after eliminating Nigeria's Enugu Rangers in the second preliminary round.
In the CAF Confederation Cup, reigning titleholder USM Alger was drawn into Group D. Their rivals in this phase will be CS Sfaxien of Tunisia, Black Bulls from Mozambique, and Real Bamako of Mali. The encounter against the Tunisian side, CS Sfaxien, a three-time winner of the continental trophy, is expected to be a significant clash for the Algerian club.
Meanwhile, CR Belouizdad, the other Algerian representative in the Confederation Cup, was provisionally placed in Group C. Their participation in this group stage remains contingent on their progression from the second preliminary round of the competition. If they advance, CR Belouizdad would face Maniema Union from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Singida Black Stars of Tanzania, and Zambia's Red Arrows.
