SDA-Sonelgaz Installs 243,239 Gas Detectors in Algerian Homes

SDA-Sonelgaz has initiated a nationwide public safety drive to combat carbon monoxide poisoning, combining the free installation of gas detectors in homes with rigorous safety inspections and public awareness campaigns. Since the program's launch in late 2023, the El Harrach distribution direction alone has equipped over 121,620 homes with more than 243,239 detectors. This effort has also resulted in savings exceeding 133.484 million dinars for citizens, highlighting a significant investment in household safety.

The initiative extends beyond equipment provision to include comprehensive technical interventions. Teams examine gas connections and internal installations, verifying home ventilation and adherence to safety standards. These inspections are designed to identify potential anomalies and mitigate risks associated with natural gas use. Citizens are additionally advised on the importance of maintaining heating appliances and water heaters regularly, ensuring ventilation openings remain clear even during cold periods to prevent carbon monoxide accumulation.

A key component of the program is educating the public on safety practices. Citizens receive guidance on periodically testing their detectors, replacing batteries as needed, and understanding the necessary actions if an alarm triggers: immediately evacuating the premises, opening windows safely, and moving away from potential danger sources without ignoring the alert. SDA-Sonelgaz emphasizes a shared responsibility between specialized teams and citizens in preventing risks, maintaining installations, and facilitating interventions, further supported by a 24/7 national call center at 3303 for information and emergency reporting.
