Top Military Commanders Convene Under President Tebboune
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired a high-level coordination meeting with prominent military commanders, following the recent decision to deploy army units to Niger for the protection of Algerian-Nigerien interests. This event highlights presidential oversight of strategic security matters.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in his capacity as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, chaired a significant coordination meeting on Wednesday. The high-level gathering included prominent military leaders and key governmental figures, reflecting a broad oversight of national security and strategic affairs. Among the attendees were Lieutenant General Saïd Chanegriha, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the Army, along with Ahmed Attaf, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs.
Further reinforcing the comprehensive nature of the discussions, the meeting saw the participation of Lieutenant General Moustapha Ismaïli, Commander of the Land Forces, and Major General Zoubir Ghwila, Commander of the Air Forces. Also present were Major General Hamid Fakan, Head of the Employment and Preparation Department of the Army Staff, and Abdelaziz Moujahed, Director General of the National Institute for Comprehensive Strategic Studies. This diverse representation underscores the integrated approach to strategic planning under presidential direction.
While the Algerian Presidency did not publicly disclose the specific details of the discussions, informed sources have linked the meeting to President Tebboune's recent decision to dispatch army units to the Republic of Niger. This deployment, announced earlier in the week, is specifically aimed at safeguarding shared Algerian-Nigerien energy and economic interests, demonstrating Algeria's commitment to protecting its strategic assets and regional stability.
