Tunisia, Algeria Partner on Technology, Research Valorization

Algeria and Tunisia are advancing their cooperation in technology transfer and the valorization of scientific research. The Institut national algérien de la propriété industrielle (INAPI) and Tunisia's Institut national de la normalisation et de la propriété industrielle (INNORPI) have initiated discussions to enhance exchanges between their respective networks of technology and innovation support centers. This partnership aims to foster regional innovation and economic development through shared knowledge.

During a remote coordination meeting held on October 29, 2026, representatives from both institutes explored avenues for collaboration, including sharing expertise, training researchers and inventors, and providing support for innovative projects. A key focus of these discussions was also to improve access to technological information and patent databases. These technology and innovation support centers are instrumental in facilitating the circulation of technical knowledge, aiding researchers and businesses in identifying existing solutions, avoiding duplication, and developing new applications.

The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening the capabilities of these support networks in both countries. Objectives include increasing training initiatives, awareness campaigns, and experience exchanges, alongside enhancing services for researchers, innovators, and economic enterprises. Furthermore, the cooperation seeks to valorize scientific research results by transforming laboratory findings into concrete applications and viable economic projects. Ahmed Othman Mohamed Salem, director of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) external office in Algeria, participated in the opening of this significant gathering.
