UN Review Body Receives Algeria's Anti-Corruption Pledge

An Algerian delegation attending the 17th resumed second session of the review body for the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) in Vienna, Austria, has reaffirmed the country's commitment to implementing Resolution 2/11. The delegation expressed Algeria's readiness for full and active engagement in the second phase of the convention's review mechanism, both as a state under review and a reviewing state. This stance highlights Algeria's dedication to its international legal obligations and principles of good governance.

Algeria's representative welcomed the consensus achieved on the foundational documents for the second phase of the review mechanism. Emphasis was placed on the importance of providing guidance and training tools in all official United Nations languages before review operations commence, aiming to ensure equal opportunities for participation and effective implementation of this stage. The initial day of the session focused on evaluating the mechanism's performance and ongoing preparations for its second phase, which was approved by the Conference of States Parties during its 11th session in Doha, with review operations slated to begin in 2027.

This participation underscores Algeria's unwavering commitment to the principles of international cooperation, the exchange of expertise, and the strengthening of collective efforts in the prevention and combat of corruption. The Algerian delegation comprises representatives from the Supreme Authority for Transparency, Prevention, and Combat of Corruption, including members Yakout Amel Aissani, Khaled Ben Gernan, and Abdelrahman Bouzid, alongside officials from the Ministry of Justice, the Central Office for Anti-Corruption, the General Directorate of National Security, and the National Gendarmerie Command. The current session is scheduled to conclude on Friday, culminating in an extraordinary session of the Conference of States Parties for the adoption of the second phase documents.
