Fruit Attraction 2026 Yields New Algerian Agro-Export Pacts

Algeria's participation in the International Fruit and Vegetable Exhibition (Fruit Attraction 2026), which took place from October 6 to 8 at the Ifma Madrid exhibition center, concluded with promising commercial outcomes. This included the signing of eight agricultural memorandums of understanding and a $3 million industrial export contract to Germany. Ten Algerian operators represented national production at the event, which is considered one of the largest global gatherings in the fruit and vegetable sector, opening new horizons for the "made in Algeria" label within the European market.
This engagement demonstrates the attractiveness and maturity of Algeria's agricultural sector, which is capable of meeting foreign market demands while adhering to quality standards. The memorandums of understanding, primarily focused on exporting agricultural products to European markets, establish new logistical and commercial gateways to the European Union. Algerian fruits and vegetables, such as dates, citrus, potatoes, and other market garden produce, exhibit strong commercial potential, reflecting significant advancements in production capacities and quality standards achieved in recent years. These attributes enable Algeria to integrate into global value chains with a focused development and growth strategy, extending beyond agricultural exports to encompass industrial agro-food expertise, as exemplified by the packaging products contract with a German partner.
The signing of these memorandums presents a considerable challenge for Algerian companies, requiring them to adapt production capacities to target volumes, invest in equipment modernization, and adopt new conditioning technologies. This participation also provided Algerian operators an opportunity to explore the latest technical processes across agricultural value chains, particularly in logistics, storage, cold chain management, packaging, digital transformation, and smart agriculture. Crucially, direct state support remains indispensable, acting as a facilitator to overcome barriers to entry into foreign markets.
By laying the groundwork for sustainable partnerships in Europe, Algeria is reinforcing its economic sovereignty, enhancing its trade balance, and progressively asserting itself as a significant agro-food player at regional and continental levels.
