Government Reviews New Local Integration Mechanism for Vehicle and Phone Industries, Assesses Anti-Drug Strategy

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb chaired a government meeting today, Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
The government opened its session by hearing a presentation on the proposed mechanism for calculating and assessing the local integration rate in the manufacture of heavy and light vehicles and mobile phones. The aim is to determine the actual material content and industrial operations carried out locally, allowing these industries to be localized, integration rates to be raised, and the import bill to be reduced. The government stressed that this mechanism is part of a new vision aimed at establishing a genuine national industry that goes beyond traditional assembly, by strengthening partnerships, ensuring technology transfer, developing skills, and reinforcing the subcontracting network, thereby boosting local production capacity.
As part of the follow-up on the implementation of the President’s decisions on confronting the phenomenon of drugs and psychotropic substances through an integrated strategy, the government reviewed the interim assessment of the implementation of the National Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Drugs and Psychotropic Substances for 2025-2029, one year after its launch, along with the strengthening of the related institutional framework.
The field results of the action plan, which is based on anticipation, deterrence, and care, were presented on this occasion. It was stressed that the plan will continue to be adapted to new developments in organized crime, with its effectiveness subject to monthly evaluation at the government level. The government also emphasized the need to strengthen field and community-level action, particularly by involving civil society as an integral part of the national effort to combat this scourge and limit its spread, in addition to expanding international cooperation in this area.
Finally, the government reviewed the continuation of field measures related to the completion of the relevant sections of the railway line linking El Menia and Tamanrasset, which, in accordance with the President’s instructions during the last Council of Ministers meeting, will begin from the wilaya of Tamanrasset.
