Grande-Poste Campaign Promotes Blood Donation for ‘Octobre Rose’

The Algerian Red Crescent has initiated a blood donation campaign at Grande-Poste in Algiers, set to continue until October 8. Organized in collaboration with the blood transfusion center of CHU Mustapha-Pacha, this effort is part of the 'Octobre Rose' awareness month, which focuses on breast cancer. The campaign, launched last Friday on the esplanade of the capital's notable edifice, operates under the slogan "A drop of your blood saves a life."

This initiative extends beyond breast cancer awareness to promote a broader culture of regular and voluntary blood donation. Blood donations are crucial for various medical situations, including surgical procedures, intensive treatments, and cases of anemia requiring transfusions. The collected blood is processed into different components to supply several key medical facilities, including CHU Mustapha-Pacha, Centre Pierre et Marie Curie (CPMC), Clinique Claude Debussy, Les Orangers, and Clinique Mère et Enfant, highlighting its vital role in the healthcare system.

The campaign has already seen significant public engagement, with more than eleven individuals presenting to donate within half an hour of Saturday morning's setup. This participation includes both new volunteers and regular donors, underscoring a strong sense of civic solidarity. Mohamed Mahdi Bellaouar, health official at the Algerian Red Crescent, affirmed that the operation aligns with the spirit of 'Octobre Rose' to bolster mobilization for women's health, particularly those affected by breast cancer, and complements existing awareness efforts by fostering a consistent culture of voluntary donation.
