National Breast Cancer Detection Campaign Begins with Mobile Caravan

A national campaign to intensify early detection of breast cancer commenced today, Thursday, in Algeria. This initiative is marked by the simultaneous launch of the first connected mobile caravan, designed to travel across various wilayas of the nation. The campaign underscores a proactive approach to public health, focusing on early intervention and preventive measures against the disease.
Mohamed Talhi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health, speaking on behalf of Health Minister Mohamed Al-Siddiq Ait Massoudan, highlighted the mobile caravan as a scientific model for integrating technology into disease detection. The caravan is scheduled to tour different regions of the country starting this October and continuing until January 2027. This technological deployment reflects a commitment to leverage modern methods for improved health outcomes.
Mr. Talhi emphasized the imperative to shift from merely responding to disease to anticipating and enabling early detection. He noted that over 56,000 new cancer cases are recorded annually, with breast cancer accounting for 1,447 of these cases each year. Breast cancer is recognized as the primary cause of cancer-related deaths among women and is increasingly affecting women at younger ages, further underscoring the critical importance of early screening efforts.
