National Diplomacy Day Highlights Global Engagement

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf presided over the National Day of Algerian Diplomacy, marking the occasion alongside the anniversary of the United Nations' founding. In his address, Minister Attaf emphasized Algeria's steadfast commitment to international principles and multilateralism, particularly during a period he characterized as a major crisis for the international relations system. He highlighted the weakening of the United Nations' role, the decline in respect for international law, and the continuous undermining of multilateral action as key sources of global concern, stressing the necessity of universal adherence to international law and the UN Charter as foundational for global peace and stability.

Minister Attaf reiterated Algeria's firm belief that security, stability, and development are interconnected with justice and legitimacy. He outlined Algeria's active engagement in efforts to achieve a just and lasting political solution for Western Sahara, affirming it as a decolonization issue where the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination must be upheld in accordance with international legitimacy. Furthermore, he reaffirmed Algeria's complete and unconditional support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to establish an independent, viable, and sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital, while condemning ongoing aggression and calling for serious international action.

Addressing regional affairs, Minister Attaf underscored Algeria's commitment to good neighborliness and regional security, denouncing foreign interventions in nations such as Libya, Sudan, Somalia, and Yemen, and advocating for their unity and territorial integrity. He presented Algeria's comprehensive approach to the Sahel region, acknowledging its integrated challenges of security and development. Algeria continues to support the capacities of Sahelian states, including through infrastructure projects like the Trans-Saharan Road and fiber optic connections, and is actively involved in regional energy integration through initiatives like the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, believing in solutions developed within the region to foster stability and prosperity.
