OPEC Secretary-General Lauds Algerian Energy Diplomacy

The Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Haitham El Ghais, has officially praised Algeria's energy diplomacy for its consistent efforts in stabilizing global energy markets and strengthening cohesion within the oil producers' cartel. Speaking on official television channels, El Ghais highlighted Algeria's engagement on multiple fronts, including its role in building bridges between regional cooperation, continental infrastructure initiatives, and international organizations of energy producers and consumers.
Algeria has demonstrated a leading role in preserving the stability of international energy market supplies and maintaining unity within the OPEC+ framework. The OPEC Secretary-General affirmed that Algeria's diplomatic efforts have been crucial to the stability of the international oil market, suggesting that without these contributions, the market would not maintain its current level of stability. Furthermore, El Ghais noted that the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) aligns with a broader vision for African energy integration, underscoring the regional dynamic's particular importance.
This acknowledgment extends to Algeria's historical impact on OPEC's resilience and effectiveness. The Secretary-General recalled a significant meeting held in Algiers in 2016, which was a pivotal moment for the organization, enabling it to regain strength, act decisively for market stability, and effectively defend the interests of producing nations. These continuous efforts highlight Algeria's strategic contributions to the global energy landscape and its role in fostering collective action among energy producers.
