Algiers International Airport to Open Duty-Free Shop by Late March

The CEO of the Algiers Airport Management Company, Mokhtar Saïd Mediouni, announced the upcoming opening of a duty-free shop at Algiers International Airport by the end of March. This announcement follows the signing of a lease agreement on Tuesday for a 2,400-square-meter space dedicated to the project.

The contract was signed at the airport between Mediouni and Mohamed Salah Belhouchet, the manager of “Salvo Grima Group-Duty Free Algiers” SARL. Operating under the trade name “Afak” (Horizons), the winning company will manage the duty-free shop according to strict guidelines and standards. The shop will feature a wide range of global brands found in duty-free shops at major international airports, as well as uniquely Algerian products, Mediouni said.

This initiative is expected to elevate Algiers International Airport to one of the top-ranking airports in the Maghreb and Africa, both in service quality and operational excellence.

Additionally, Mediouni revealed plans for future expansions of the duty-free area and the inclusion of a designated children’s section. He also highlighted efforts to improve airport services, including better parking facilities and streamlined passenger movement using artificial intelligence applications.

Belhouchet remarked that the agreement will create approximately 150 direct jobs and bring more dynamism to one of Algeria’s busiest airports. He also emphasized that all standards for the project have been met, with local Algerian expertise and materials being prioritized during the construction process. The project also draws inspiration from experiences in countries like Italy, Malta, and England.
