Trade Minister Calls for Zero Tolerance Against Speculation and Hoarding to Ensure Market Stability

Algiers – Algeria’s Minister of Domestic Trade and Market Regulation, Mr. Tayeb Zitouni, emphasized on Saturday the critical importance of vigilance and a strict stance against all forms of speculation and hoarding. This approach, he stated, is essential to maintaining market stability and protecting citizens’ purchasing power, according to a ministry statement.

Speaking at the closing session of the National Conference for Trade Sector Officials, held in Algiers, Minister Zitouni reiterated the need to ensure fair distribution of goods and maintain the current availability levels across markets.

Reinforcing Market Stability and Consumer Protection

Minister Zitouni called for unwavering commitment to combating practices that threaten market equilibrium. “Maintaining market stability, safeguarding purchasing power, and ensuring a fair distribution of goods to meet citizens’ needs must remain our priority,” he stressed during his remarks.

The conference also included productive discussions and valuable proposals aimed at strengthening the role of the trade sector in achieving economic development and serving the population, the ministry statement noted.

Proactive Measures to Address Market Challenges

In line with the outcomes of the conference, the minister urged officials to implement the proposals discussed and adapt the ministry’s programs to address current challenges and seize available opportunities. This is essential, he said, to improve market organization and enhance the ministry’s performance.

Additionally, Minister Zitouni expressed his gratitude to the regional directorates for their innovative ideas and contributions, emphasizing the importance of full mobilization to tackle future challenges.

Preparing for Ramadan: A Call for Commitment

Looking ahead to Ramadan, a critical period for market activity in Algeria, the minister called on the trade sector’s officials to remain fully engaged to ensure the smooth supply of goods during the holy month. “Full mobilization is necessary to successfully meet the demands of Ramadan,” he said, urging all officials to continue working with diligence and responsibility to meet the expectations of both the nation and its citizens.
