Doctors Without Borders Calls for Immediate and Large-Scale Humanitarian Aid for Gaza

Gaza – On Monday, January 20, 2025, Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF) issued an urgent appeal for a rapid and extensive increase in humanitarian aid for Gaza. The international organization emphasized the critical need for assistance to reach all areas of the region, according to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA).

In a statement reported by WAFA, MSF reaffirmed its “commitment to working around the clock to provide care for the people of Gaza, despite the catastrophic levels of humanitarian needs.” The organization also called on the Israeli occupation to ensure the immediate entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and facilitate medical evacuations, particularly to the northern areas, which have been under siege since October 2023.

Urgent Need for Humanitarian Assistance

MSF stressed that the recent ceasefire agreement in Gaza is only the beginning of addressing the immense humanitarian, psychological, and medical needs of the population. It urged the Israeli entity to “immediately lift its blockade on Gaza and ensure a massive increase in humanitarian aid to all parts of the region.” This, MSF stated, is essential to help the hundreds of thousands of people living in dire conditions begin their long journey toward recovery.

The organization highlighted the devastating toll of the prolonged aggression, which has destroyed homes, hospitals, and critical infrastructure. Over 2 million people in Gaza are now in desperate need of water, food, and shelter as they face the harsh winter conditions.

A Crisis Beyond Repair

The statement from MSF also detailed the long-lasting effects of the violence, noting:

  • Healthcare Crisis: Over the past 15 months, Gaza’s hospitals have been overwhelmed with patients suffering from life-altering injuries, including amputations.
  • Personal Tragedies: Families continue to search for the remains of loved ones amid the destruction.
  • Attacks on Medical Personnel: Eight MSF staff members have lost their lives during the conflict, while healthcare facilities and workers have been repeatedly targeted.
  • Arbitrary Detentions: The number of people arbitrarily detained from Gaza and the West Bank has reached alarming levels.

MSF emphasized the urgent need for safe and secure humanitarian corridors to deliver aid and evacuate patients. It reiterated that the devastating consequences of the aggression, including the displacement of over 2 million people, require a global response to alleviate suffering and restore basic human dignity to the population of Gaza.

This call for action by MSF underscores the severe and ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which demands immediate international attention and intervention.
