Ramallah (Occupied Palestine) – The Chairman of the Palestinian National Council, Mr. Ruhi Fattouh, issued a call on Wednesday urging the international community to take “immediate and serious action” to halt the ongoing Israeli occupation’s aggression against the Palestinian people, particularly in the city of Jenin and its refugee camp.
In a statement released by the Palestinian National Council and reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Fattouh warned of “dangerous plans” being pursued by the far-right coalition of the Israeli government. These plans, he stated, involve launching a wide-scale assault targeting all provinces in the occupied West Bank, committing acts of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and mass expulsion of Palestinians to facilitate colonial annexation projects.
Escalating Violations in the West Bank
Fattouh highlighted that the far-right Israeli government has turned West Bank cities and villages into isolated cantons and segregated prisons, further suffocating Palestinians and exacerbating their daily suffering. These measures, he noted, represent a blatant violation of international laws and norms.
He further emphasized that the Israeli occupation’s aggressive practices are aimed at entrenching a system of apartheid and enforcing de facto policies that undermine the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to freedom and independence.
Criticism of International Silence
Fattouh criticized the international community for its inaction, accusing it of turning a blind eye to the implementation of international humanitarian law and United Nations resolutions. He pointed out that the global failure to stop the genocidal and ethnic cleansing campaigns in Gaza has emboldened the Israeli occupation forces to escalate their atrocities in the occupied West Bank.
Call for Accountability and Justice
The Palestinian official called on the international community to “fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities” by pressuring the Israeli occupation to cease its aggression and holding it accountable for its crimes against the Palestinian people. He stressed the need for serious efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on ending the occupation and guaranteeing the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
