Algiers – The Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mr. Mohamed Arkeb, received the Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Alexandra Papadopoulou, on Thursday at the ministry’s headquarters in Algiers. The meeting focused on exploring cooperation and partnership opportunities between the two countries in the fields of energy and mining, according to a statement from the ministry.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of State for Mines, Karima Tafer, the Secretary of State for Renewable Energies, Noureddine Yassaa, and several senior officials.
During the session, both parties reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation and discussed prospects for enhancing collaboration, particularly in the areas of energy, mining, and renewable energies.
In this regard, they emphasized their commitment to developing energy cooperation by exploring available opportunities, especially in the marketing of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and new renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic solar energy, including decentralized solar power stations, wind energy, and others. The discussions highlighted the importance of leveraging Greece’s experience in these sectors.
Additionally, the two sides explored cooperation and partnership opportunities in geological studies, research, exploration, and the exploitation of mineral resources. Special attention was given to the processing and transformation of marble, phosphates, iron ore, feldspar, and critical and strategic minerals that are key priorities for sustainable economic development, as noted in the statement.
On this occasion, the Minister of State stated that Ms. Papadopoulou’s visit reflects the shared will to strengthen bilateral relations and expand economic cooperation between the two countries. He stressed the importance of identifying priority areas for cooperation and investment in energy and mining projects to achieve mutually beneficial partnerships.
For her part, the Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed satisfaction with the quality of relations between the two nations and confirmed her country’s readiness to further develop and enhance bilateral cooperation. She also called for intensified consultations in economic and trade areas to serve the mutual interests of both parties, according to the same source.
