On the Sidelines of Her Participation in the High-Level Security Council Meeting: Mansouri Holds Several Bilateral Meetings

New York (United Nations) – On Tuesday, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, Ms. Salma Mansouri, held a series of bilateral meetings with several heads of delegations participating in the high-level open debate of the UN Security Council on practicing multilateralism, reform, and improving global governance. She also met with several UN officials.

In this context, Ms. Mansouri held discussions with Mr. Ahmed Malaq Fiqi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia; Mr. Gigi Ondongo Aboubacar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda; and Ms. Frances Biaagi Al-Ghali, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sierra Leone.

These talks provided an opportunity to exchange views on current regional and international issues. Discussions focused on ways to enhance coordination and cooperation in various international forums, particularly within the African Union and the United Nations.

Additionally, a meeting was held with representatives of the “A3+” group, which includes Algeria, Somalia, Sierra Leone, and Guyana. This meeting was dedicated to exchanging perspectives on the issues on the Security Council’s agenda, especially those concerning African and Latin American countries.

Participants in the meeting discussed ways to strengthen consultation and coordination within the group to amplify its voice in the Security Council.

Ms. Mansouri also held meetings with the UN Special Adviser on African Affairs, Ms. Cristina Duarte, and the Assistant Secretary-General for African Affairs, Martha Amaaka Bobbie. Discussions during these meetings focused on prospects for strengthening Algeria’s partnership with the UN in peacekeeping and peacebuilding, particularly in Africa, as well as African-UN cooperation and coordination on issues related to peace, security, and development in Africa.
