National Martyrs’ Day: Chaïb Participates Remotely in the Commemoration Organized by the Algerian Consulate General in Marseille

Algiers – On Tuesday, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaïb, participated remotely via videoconference in the commemorative event organized by the Algerian Consulate General in Marseille to mark National Martyrs’ Day, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs.

The Secretary of State emphasized the “symbolism of this recurring historical occasion, which embodies the values of loyalty to the immense sacrifices made by our resilient people during their arduous struggle against colonial oppression.” He added that these sacrifices have etched enduring epics into the nation’s memory, as stated in the same source.

On this occasion, he praised – as noted in the statement – “the attachment of our diaspora abroad to their homeland, demonstrating on numerous occasions their pride in their national identity. This has been expressed through their efforts to preserve national memory and the foundations of Algerian identity.”

In this regard, Mr. Chaïb recalled that “the government is actively working to address these demands, which align with preserving the legacy and message of our martyrs by safeguarding Algeria’s sovereignty and continuing the process of national development.”

In response to these demands, the Secretary of State highlighted – according to the statement – “the relentless efforts being made by our ministry in coordination with relevant governmental sectors to implement the project of establishing a virtual Algerian school for the children of our diaspora abroad.” This initiative aims to strengthen the teaching of cultural and national identity components and Algerian history, recognizing its importance in shaping the consciousness of future generations. It also seeks to deepen belonging, instill citizenship values among the children of our diaspora, and reinforce and root patriotism within them.
