Rachid Hachichi, CEO of Sonatrach, welcomed Martin Wetselaar, his counterpart from Spain’s Cepsa, on Thursday to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two companies, with a focus on new opportunities in clean energy, according to a Sonatrach statement.
The meeting, attended by senior executives from both firms, aimed to bolster their strategic partnership. The parties explored ways to deepen ties, emphasizing clean and renewable energy sectors, which are increasingly vital in the global energy landscape.
Both reaffirmed their commitment to innovative, sustainable projects, the statement noted, recalling their October 2024 memorandum of understanding for a joint feasibility study on an integrated green hydrogen production project in Algeria, primarily targeting the European market.
This joint initiative, the source explained, will “support decarbonization goals, involving a hydrogen production plant via electrolysis, powered by solar and wind energy stations.”
Cepsa, a long-standing partner of Sonatrach, is a global leader operating across the energy value chain, with expertise in renewables and green hydrogen, Sonatrach confirmed.
