Algeria’s Youth Minister and Supreme Youth Council representative, Mustafa Haidawi, will participate in the “African Youth Leaders Summit” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from April 3–5, according to a Wednesday statement from the ministry.
Organized by the African Union under the theme “Unleashing Youth Potential for a Prosperous Africa,” the summit aims to “enhance youth involvement in peace and sustainable development efforts, foster unity among African youth, and address critical issues like diplomacy and their role in safeguarding African interests globally,” the statement explained.
The event, expecting around 1,000 young participants, will feature a startup exhibition and diverse cultural activities. Haidawi will showcase Algeria’s experience in “empowering youth, supporting them, and developing policies to involve them in decision-making, reflecting the high priority given by Algerian authorities to this group.”
The statement highlighted Algeria’s youth model, evidenced by “establishing a dedicated youth ministry, creating the Supreme Youth Council, amending electoral laws to boost youth representation in local and national councils, and launching a ministry for startups while modernizing universities.” Additional measures include “policies and laws supporting youth rights, participation in decision-making, and initiatives across various fields.”
Haidawi will also hold bilateral meetings with youth leaders from across Africa to “strengthen collaboration and share expertise among African youth councils, building on discussions from the African Youth Forum in Oran, November 2024,” the statement concluded.
