Commerce Authorities Intensify Food Safety Inspections Nationwide

By Nor Eleslam

Algeria’s trade control services have stepped up field inspections across the country to verify food safety conditions and ensure compliance with health standards, as part of the ongoing national summer monitoring program. According to the Ministry of Domestic Trade, this intensified oversight—especially during nights and weekends when food demand peaks—targets key sectors such as bakeries, candy shops, grocery stores, and restaurants. Inspectors are tasked with checking hygiene, refrigeration, food quality, and pricing. The initiative, driven by Minister Tayeb Zitouni’s directives, has been positively received by the public and aims to curb health risks. The ministry pledged to maintain and expand the campaign, urging traders to comply fully with food safety rules and encouraging citizens to report violations to support responsible consumption and commercial discipline.
