Algiers – On Sunday evening, the Algerian capital hosted the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Federal Republic of Somalia’s Embassy, in a ceremony attended by Salma Bekhta Mansouri, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, alongside Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdelsalam Omar Abdi Ali.In her remarks, Mansouri emphasized that the new embassy building is “far more than a diplomatic structure; it is a new bridge for communication, a platform for strengthening cooperation, and a living symbol of the solid fraternal bonds uniting our two countries and brotherly peoples.”She noted that this important event took place during the Somali Foreign Minister’s official visit to Algeria, during which he held “fruitful” talks with senior Algerian officials. Discussions focused on boosting bilateral ties and exchanging views on regional and international issues of shared concern, particularly in the context of both Algeria and Somalia’s membership in the United Nations Security Council — an opportunity, she stressed, to deepen consultation and coordination on critical issues on the Council’s agenda.Mansouri highlighted that Algeria and Somalia have long been connected by genuine brotherhood, mutual solidarity in both prosperous and challenging times, and joint work in regional and international forums in defense of just causes, including the enduring struggle of the Sahrawi people for self-determination — a stance that reaffirms Algeria’s principled opposition to Moroccan expansionism in Western Sahara.
