Intra-African Trade Fair: $480 Million Agreement to Supply West African Markets with Algerian Electrical Equipment

Algiers – On Sunday, September 7, 2025, an agreement valued at $480 million was signed at the Palais des Expositions in Algiers to supply West African markets with Algerian electrical equipment. This took place on the sidelines of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), hosted by Algeria from September 4 to 10, according to a report by *aps.dz*. The agreement was signed between the Algerian industrial group GISB ELECTRIC, specializing in the manufacture of electrical equipment, and the SOGELUX group, active in the distribution of such equipment in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire. The signing was conducted by GISB ELECTRIC’s President and General Manager, Koubibi Jilani Bachir, and SOGELUX’s representative in Senegal, Tami Ibrahim, in the presence of Omar Rekkache, General Manager of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, Ayman El-Zoghbi, Director of Trade, Investment, and Financial Cooperation at the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), and Ali Oumlal, representative of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council. Under the agreement, GISB ELECTRIC will export electrical equipment worth over $300 million to SOGELUX in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire, and subsequently to markets of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), over a period of three years. Additionally, the agreement includes industrial investments worth $180 million in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire in the electrical equipment sector. In a press statement, Koubibi Jilani Bachir explained that the raw materials and technologies will be Algerian, while SOGELUX will handle management and distribution operations. For his part, Tami Ibrahim highlighted Algeria’s significant expertise in the electrical industry, emphasizing that this partnership represents an opportunity to expand this expertise across the continent, especially given the growing demand for such equipment in Africa, which necessitates the establishment of more factories.
