Algiers – The Minister of Public Works and Basic Construction, Abdelkader Jilawi, today, Wednesday, received at his ministry headquarters the general directors of national bodies responsible for executing major infrastructure projects in the ports and railways sectors, as part of a series of preliminary meetings with sector officials to review the status of key strategic projects, according to a ministry statement.

In this context, Mr. Jilawi held special sessions with the general directors of the National Agency for Port Infrastructure Execution, the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of Railway Investment Execution, the Railway Execution Group, as well as the Studies, Infrastructure, Supervision, and Assistance Group, the statement added.

During his meeting with the Director General of the National Agency for Port Infrastructure Execution, the progress of projects assigned to the agency was reviewed, primarily the phosphatic extension project of Annaba Port, which includes constructing a mining quay as part of the integrated phosphate project, alongside follow-up on ongoing studies related to the expansion of Jen Jen Port in Jijel Province.

In the meeting with the Director General of the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of Railway Investment Execution, a comprehensive presentation was given on the railway investment program, which includes projects for the eastern and western mining railway lines, as well as studies concerning the construction of the railway line connecting Algiers and Tamanrasset, according to the statement.

During the meeting with the Director General of the Railway Execution Group, the discussion focused on “the status of this recently established group by presidential decree, with a presentation of the projects it supervises and the future prospects associated with them, especially given that it has achieved good results despite its recent establishment.”

Regarding his meeting with the CEO of the Studies, Infrastructure, Supervision, and Assistance Group, discussions centered on technical support mechanisms aimed at accompanying various ongoing projects and ensuring quality standards and contractual deadlines are met.

At the end of these sessions, Mr. Jilawi confirmed that these special meetings “are part of the close monitoring of various investment programs in the infrastructure sectors,” stressing the necessity of “tight coordination among all actors and strict enforcement of contractual commitments to ensure the realization of major projects with strategic and economic importance, primarily mining railway lines and ports.”

The minister also instructed the CEO of the Railway Execution Group on “the need to expand the group’s activities in maintenance, particularly in cooperation with the National Railway Transport Company, and to work on establishing partnerships with national companies and institutions to boost economic dynamism and strengthen the sector’s capabilities,” according to the same source.
