Algeria Pushes to Accelerate Construction of the Eastern Mining Railway Line

Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, chaired a coordination meeting at the ministry’s headquarters on Saturday to review progress on the Eastern Mining Railway Line linking Annaba to Oued Kebrit and Bled El Hadba.
The strategic railway project extends over 422 kilometres and is intended to strengthen the transport of mining products while supporting economic and industrial development in eastern Algeria.
The meeting focused particularly on the 121-kilometre section connecting Bouchegouf to Dréa. Participants assessed the progress achieved across the various construction sites and examined measures needed to speed up the pace of work.
Senior officials from the ministry attended the meeting, along with the Director General of the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring the Implementation of Railway Investments. The directors general of the Chinese companies CCCC and CRBC, which are responsible for building the Bouchegouf–Dréa section, also took part.
The Chinese executives travelled from the People’s Republic of China to examine the project’s progress and discuss practical solutions for accelerating construction.
During the meeting, detailed technical presentations were delivered on the progress recorded at the different worksites. The presentations were supported by recent photographs showing the completion levels of several project components, particularly earthworks and engineering structures.
The Bouchegouf–Dréa section is divided into two parts: a 72-kilometre stretch between Bouchegouf and Ain Senour and a 49-kilometre stretch connecting Ain Senour to Dréa.
At the end of the meeting, Djellaoui issued a series of practical instructions aimed at increasing the pace of construction. He called for the establishment of a precise timetable for the gradual completion and delivery of engineering structures.
This approach is expected to allow railway track installation to begin and continue without interruption. The minister also ordered the reinforcement of worksites with the necessary workforce and equipment.
He stressed the importance of close coordination between all stakeholders, strict compliance with the agreed work schedule and the timely completion of the project.
The Eastern Mining Railway Line is considered a major infrastructure project that will improve railway connectivity and facilitate the transportation of mineral resources from production areas to industrial and port facilities.
