Algiers – Today, Thursday, the Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Jallawi, chaired a working meeting at his ministry headquarters to monitor the progress of construction works related to the expansion project of the Annaba Phosphate Port, which includes the construction of a mining dock as part of the integrated phosphate project, according to a ministry statement.
This meeting follows a series of sessions held by the minister yesterday, Wednesday, with officials and managers of national companies under supervision to track the implementation of major strategic projects in the sector, especially in infrastructure, the source added.
The meeting was attended by senior ministry officials, the Director General of the National Agency for Port Infrastructure Implementation (ANRIP), acting as the delegated project owner, alongside an Algerian-Chinese consortium of execution companies including Cosider-TP (general construction), the National Mediterranean Marine Works Company (MEDITRAM), representatives from China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), as well as the CEOs of the Marine Studies Laboratory (LEM) and Alfapipe company.
During the meeting, the Director General of ANRIP made a detailed technical presentation on the Annaba Phosphate Port expansion project, including some obstacles discussed in yesterday’s meeting. The minister proposed effective solutions to overcome these challenges to accelerate the pace of work and complete the project through coordination with partners and relevant sector officials involved.
The consortium pledged to supply and manufacture all required materials and supplies within a specified short timeframe and in sufficient quantities to ensure continuous construction operations at full capacity.
The group also committed to ensuring tight and continuous coordination among all partners to complete and deliver the project within contractual deadlines, in accordance with instructions from the President of the Republic.
In this regard, Mr. Jallawi decided to establish a dedicated monitoring cell for the project’s progress, comprising all stakeholders including the central director for port infrastructure development representing the ministry, to ensure accurate and effective supervision of all phases of implementation, the statement said.
Additionally, the meeting addressed final preparations for the minister’s upcoming field visits starting next week to major projects currently underway nationwide.
