Algiers – dzwatch.dz
Algeria has firmly rejected what it described as a “blatant maneuver” by Mali before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), following Bamako’s decision to submit a request on September 16, 2025—after initially denying such an attempt earlier in the month.
In a statement, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the contradiction in Mali’s position, pointing out that the ruling military junta in Bamako—responsible for undermining constitutional order in its own country—now claims to seek justice under international law while ignoring it domestically.
Algeria Condemns “Cynical Exploitation” of the ICJ
The ministry emphasized that the Malian authorities, who have led their country into a political, economic, and security disaster, are attempting to shift blame for their failures by exploiting the ICJ.
“It is clear that this approach aims to misuse a respected UN judicial body in a desperate attempt to find a scapegoat for the tragedy they have inflicted upon brotherly Mali,” the statement read.
Algeria denounced the move as outrageous and unworthy, reiterating its deep respect for international law and for the ICJ, while stressing its duty to ensure that the Court is not turned into a platform for baseless political theatrics.
Firm Position at the International Level
The statement concluded by affirming that Algeria will formally notify the ICJ of its rejection of Mali’s maneuver in due course, leaving no room for misinterpretation regarding its position.
