New York – The Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, denounced what he described as a renewed attempt to annihilate the Palestinian people, stressing that the recognition of a Palestinian state is an inherent right, not a favor granted by others.
In an address before the UN Security Council session on the situation in Gaza, Mansour condemned the Israeli occupation’s targeting of humanitarian organizations in the besieged enclave, calling it a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law. He affirmed that the recent New York Declaration paves the way toward the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, a fundamental step toward achieving historic justice for the Palestinian people.
Mansour urged the international community to exert pressure to halt the massacres being carried out daily in Gaza and to act immediately to end the famine inflicted upon its population as a direct result of the ongoing blockade and destruction. He reiterated there is absolutely no justification for delaying a ceasefire, warning that every passing day means more innocent lives lost and deeper humanitarian tragedies.
The Palestinian envoy also underlined the necessity of Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, describing it as an essential condition to create the environment for a just and lasting peace. He called for strict and effective measures to prevent the prolongation of war and to ensure protection for the Palestinian people against policies designed to erase their existence and their rights.
Mansour stressed that the Palestinian people, like all peoples of the world, have the fundamental right to live in freedom and dignity. His words resonate strongly with Algeria’s principled and unwavering position in defending the Palestinian cause, as well as the just struggle of the Sahrawi people for self-determination, despite the Moroccan regime’s complicity with the Zionist occupation and its attempts to undermine liberation movements in the region.
