Algiers, September 28, 2025 – US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau reaffirmed Washington’s interest in broadening and strengthening economic relations with Algeria, describing the existing opportunities as “immense” and mutually beneficial for both nations.
In a video message addressed to the “great Algerian people” and published on the official social media channels of the US Embassy in Algiers, Landau stated: “One of the most exciting areas I have been working on recently is opening new horizons for trade relations between our two great countries. The significant opportunities available will enable greater prosperity for both Algerian and American peoples.”
The senior US diplomat also expressed his satisfaction following his meeting with Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held last Thursday in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The two officials discussed ways to capitalize on untapped economic potential.
Looking ahead, Landau conveyed his eagerness to visit Algeria soon, stressing his determination to foster closer ties: “I very much look forward to the possibility of our countries drawing even closer together, so that both our peoples can enjoy greater prosperity.”
This renewed American diplomatic engagement reflects Washington’s recognition of Algeria’s strategic role in the Mediterranean, Africa, and the Arab world, as well as the country’s growing appeal as an economic partner due to its stability, natural resources, and reform agenda under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
