Industry: Mr. Bachir Discusses with Gitex Officials Ways to Revive Algeria’s Textile and Leather Industries Sector

Algiers – On Saturday in Algiers, the Minister of Industry, Yahia Bachir, held a working meeting with the officials of the holding company Gitex, specializing in textile and leather industries. The meeting aimed to review the company’s status and its branches and to take the necessary measures to revive this sector, according to a ministry statement.

This meeting is part of a series of regular follow-up sessions on the activities of public enterprises and was attended by the ministry’s central executives and Gitex officials.

During the meeting, the current situation of the company and its branches was reviewed, and ways to overcome obstacles were discussed to ensure the real revival of this strategic sector, in which Algeria was a leader for decades.

The minister emphasized the crucial importance of continuing efforts to revive the textile and leather industries, considering this sector capable of creating high added value and providing sustainable employment opportunities. It also contributes to reducing the import bill by satisfying the national market with competitive local products.

According to the statement, Mr. Yahia Bachir called for establishing a new approach based on modernizing management patterns, integrating digitalization, and adopting innovation in design and production according to international standards.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening industrial integration between Gitex and other national groups, particularly regarding value chains, and developing partnerships with the private sector to achieve a qualitative leap in this sector.

The minister concluded by affirming that the ministry will support the holding company in resolving organizational, structural, and financial obstacles, while ensuring regular meetings are held to evaluate progress in projects aimed at reviving the textile and leather industry.
