The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement in Morocco has accused the Moroccan government of complicity with Israel by allowing a Danish-owned ship, the 'Marian Danica,' to dock and refuel in Casablanca after it was refused entry by Cape Verde. The BDS movement alleges the ship was carrying munitions destined for the Israeli military.
In a statement titled ‘Ship Carrying Projectiles to the Occupation… Refused in Cape Verde, Received by Moroccan Authorities,’ the BDS movement claims the ship, which docked in Casablanca for seven hours on Monday, was transporting 18 containers of projectiles intended for use by the Israeli army against Palestinians.
The BDS movement argues that allowing a ship carrying ‘munitions of death’ to refuel in a Moroccan port violates Morocco’s international obligations and contradicts rulings by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The ICJ has called for all measures to prevent the supply of weapons or materials that could be used in war crimes to Israel. They also state the action goes against the final declaration of the Arab-Islamic summit, which called on nations to suspend the supply, transfer, or transit of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment, including dual-use materials, to Israel.
The movement holds Moroccan authorities fully responsible, morally, legally, and politically, for their alleged participation in facilitating the supply of what they term an ‘extermination machine.’
The BDS movement called on port workers to refuse services to ships transporting munitions or military equipment that could be used to commit crimes against the Palestinian people. They argued that refusing such services would be a demonstration of respect for international law, ethical and humanitarian obligations, and alignment with the will of the Moroccan people.
The movement also urged all active forces in Morocco to escalate popular, political, and activist pressure to impose a military embargo on Israel, similar to that of neighboring Spain, and to prevent the use of Moroccan ports to support the ‘extermination machine.’ They called on the international community and human rights organizations to investigate the matter, hold those involved accountable, and work to ensure the implementation of ICJ rulings and related international obligations.
