Algeria is seeking to deepen economic ties with Jordan, particularly in the energy and mining sectors. Algerian Minister of State for Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, met with Khaled Fanatseh, Secretary-General of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions, to discuss enhanced cooperation between Algerian and Jordanian institutions. The meeting, also attended by Amar Takjout, Secretary-General of the General Union of Algerian Workers, and Hamou Tawahria, Secretary-General of the National Federation of Oil, Gas and Chemistry Workers, underscored the commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Minister Arkab emphasized the strong historical ties between Algeria and Jordan, highlighting the mutual interest in fostering economic and professional collaboration, especially in the hydrocarbons and mining industries. This includes supplying Jordan with crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), as well as collaboration in petroleum product storage and distribution. Investment opportunities in the mining sector, such as phosphate exploitation, fertilizer production and marketing, and geological studies, were also key areas of focus.
Arkab stressed the importance of exchanging expertise, experiences, and modern technologies in the exploitation and processing of mineral resources. He called for increased bilateral exchanges to strengthen partnerships and investment between Algerian and Jordanian companies, particularly in the phosphate industry, leveraging Jordan’s expertise in this field. This collaboration aims to promote economic growth and create mutual benefits for both nations.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss ways to enhance trade union cooperation between the Algerian and Jordanian federations. Areas of focus included sharing knowledge in managing social dialogue, training trade union personnel, and coordinating joint efforts within economic and investment partnerships between the two countries. This reflects a spirit of Arab solidarity and integration between Algeria and Jordan across various fields, notably hydrocarbons and mining.
Khaled Fanatseh, Secretary-General of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions, expressed his appreciation for the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries. He praised Algeria’s experience in involving social partners in shaping public policies related to the world of work. Fanatseh expressed his desire to strengthen and develop trade union cooperation with the General Union of Algerian Workers, serving the interests of workers in both countries and contributing to improving the work environment and promoting bilateral economic relations. The focus on energy cooperation, mining investment, and trade union collaboration signals a new phase of strengthened partnerships between Algeria and Jordan, fostering economic growth and stability for both nations. This push for increased collaboration highlights the importance of regional partnerships in navigating the complexities of the global economy and ensuring sustainable development.
