Algeria & Qatar: Boosting Energy Ties Amid Global Shifts

Algeria and Qatar are exploring ways to strengthen their energy partnership, signaling a commitment to solidify their position in the global gas market amidst significant international energy landscape changes. The discussions took place on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in Doha, Qatar, on the sidelines of preparations for the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), scheduled for Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held bilateral talks with Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi. The meeting, attended by the Algerian Ambassador to Qatar and several senior officials from the energy and mining sectors, provided an opportunity to exchange views on developing bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors and enhancing investment partnerships between the two nations.

Both ministers emphasized the deep-rooted fraternal and historical ties between Algeria and Qatar, highlighting the strong political will of both countries’ leadership to foster greater economic integration and cooperation, particularly in vital sectors. Arkab lauded the “growing dynamism” in Algerian-Qatari relations, urging Qatari companies to expand their investment presence in Algeria, particularly in hydrocarbons, petrochemicals, and mining projects. He showcased the opportunities and advantages offered by new regulations governing the sector, aiming to attract foreign direct investment.

Al-Kaabi expressed his satisfaction with the level of bilateral relations, affirming the readiness of Qatari companies, especially QatarEnergy, to strengthen their partnerships in the Algerian market. He also praised the close coordination between the two countries within the GECF and the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC). This collaborative spirit is crucial for navigating the complexities of the current energy market.

The Algeria Qatar energy partnership is strategically important for several reasons. Both countries are major players in the global gas market, and by aligning their efforts, they can enhance their influence and competitiveness. The collaboration also allows for the sharing of expertise and technology, leading to more efficient and sustainable energy production. Furthermore, increased Qatari investment in Algeria’s energy sector can contribute to the country’s economic growth and diversification, creating jobs and boosting local industries. The focus on hydrocarbons, petrochemicals, and mining highlights Algeria’s desire to leverage its natural resources for long-term economic development.

These discussions underscore the commitment of both Algeria and Qatar to unify their efforts in the energy field, reinforcing their standing in the global gas market at a time when the world is witnessing profound shifts in the international energy map. The ongoing cooperation between Algeria and Qatar serves as a model for other gas-exporting nations seeking to navigate the evolving energy landscape and ensure a stable and prosperous future for their energy sectors. The strengthening Algeria Qatar relationship is a positive sign for the stability of the global energy supply.
