Algeria Boosts Digitalization: Gov’t Speeds Up Key Projects

Algeria is accelerating its national digitalization strategy with a coordinated government effort focused on key sectors. A high-level meeting was held recently to evaluate the progress of digital transformation projects within the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation. This initiative aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and public services through the implementation of advanced digital systems.

The meeting, held at the Government Palace, was led by the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation, Said Saayoud, and the High Commissioner for Digitalization, Maryam Ben Moloud. Key figures from both sides attended, underscoring the importance of this collaborative approach. The primary focus was to assess the implementation of digital projects related to statistical systems, data management, and cross-sectoral data integration. The meeting also addressed the monitoring of rail and maritime transport systems, highlighting their potential for financial and economic benefits.

Minister Saayoud emphasized the urgency of accelerating the work pace, stating that completing these projects before the end of the year is a top priority. He stressed the need for enhanced coordination with the High Commission for Digitalization, which oversees the national digital transformation policy. Minister Saayoud urged officials to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively to ensure the effectiveness of the digital systems and their direct benefit to citizens. The focus is on leveraging technology to improve government services and citizen engagement.

Minister Ben Moloud highlighted the crucial role of the Interior Ministry’s digital projects in building the national digital ecosystem. She noted that the data generated by these projects is essential for developing the national digital identity system, the national family registry, the automated system for generalizing the national identification number for legal entities, and the national vehicle registration system. She commended the progress made so far and assured the High Commission for Digitalization’s commitment to providing technical and coordination support to ensure timely project completion.

This coordinated effort represents a significant step towards unifying government initiatives to accelerate digital transformation in Algeria. The goal is to enhance transparency, improve administrative efficiency, and deliver better public services to citizens. This aligns with the comprehensive vision led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to modernize Algeria through digital innovation. This initiative is expected to improve various sectors, including transportation, public administration, and citizen services, contributing to overall economic growth and societal development. The government’s commitment to digitalization reflects a broader strategy to modernize Algeria and improve the quality of life for its citizens. The focus on data-driven decision-making and efficient service delivery is expected to drive positive change across various sectors.
