Algeria and Tunisia are deepening their cooperation on border security and trade facilitation, as evidenced by the recent high-level meeting held at the El Oued border crossing in Algeria. The third in a series of evaluation summits, the event brought together regional directors from both countries’ customs agencies to assess progress and chart a course for enhanced collaboration.
The Algerian delegation was led by Inspector General Abdelhamid Meouedj, Regional Director of Customs for Tebessa, while the Tunisian delegation was headed by Brigadier General Kamal Hedawi, Regional Director of Customs for Jendouba. Senior officials from both nations also participated in the discussions.
The primary focus of the meeting centered on streamlining the movement of people and goods across the shared border. Discussions explored avenues for simplifying customs procedures, reducing processing times, and ultimately fostering greater economic exchange between the two North African nations.
