Algeria is gearing up for its prestigious international Quran competition! The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments has announced the preliminary rounds for the upcoming Algeria International Holy Quran Memorization Award. This annual event is a highlight on the country’s religious calendar, attracting participants and audiences from across the globe.

The Directorate of Religious Affairs and Endowments for the province of Algiers announced that the preliminary competition will be held on November 15, 2025, at the Ahmed Sahnoun Quranic School in Bir Mourad Rais, starting at 8:00 AM. The aim is to select the top candidates in various categories who will then be nominated to participate in the final rounds at the Ministry level.

The competition features three distinct categories, catering to a wide range of participants and skill levels:

* **International Branch:** This category focuses on complete memorization of the Holy Quran with Tajwid (rules of pronunciation and recitation).
* **National Branch:** This branch requires complete memorization of the Holy Quran with Tajwid, as well as a deep understanding of its interpretation (Tafsir).
* **Encouragement Branch:** This category is specifically designed to encourage young Quran memorizers to excel and continue their Quranic studies.

The Directorate clarified that the competition is open to both male and female participants, subject to specific eligibility criteria. These criteria include:

* Candidates must have completely memorized the Holy Quran according to the Warsh recitation method from Nafi’.
* They must demonstrate proficiency in Tajwid rules across all branches.
* Age restrictions apply: candidates for the International Branch must be between 15 and 25 years old, while those in the National Branch must be at least 25 years old. The Encouragement Branch is open to those 15 years or older.
* Candidates should not have previously won any of the top three positions in national competitions for the National Branch or in the Algeria International Award for the International Branch.
* Candidates should not be recognized as prominent Quran reciters at the national or international level.

Applicants are required to submit a complete application file, including a birth certificate, proof of residence, two passport-sized photographs, and a signed application form. For the National Branch, the designated reference for interpreting the Quranic verses is the book “Kalimat al-Quran Tafsir wa Bayan” by Sheikh Hassanein Makhlouf.

This Quran memorization award highlights Algeria’s commitment to promoting Quranic knowledge and fostering a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings. The competition provides a platform for talented individuals to showcase their dedication and skill in Quran memorization, while also encouraging others to embark on this rewarding journey. The Algeria International Holy Quran Memorization Award is anticipated to be a significant success, celebrating the beauty and wisdom of the Holy Quran.
