Korean Embassy Organizes K-pop Festival in Algiers

The Korean Embassy initiated its cultural week with a K-pop festival held at the Ibn Khaldoun hall in Algiers, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd of young people. The event featured vibrant performances of K-pop songs and dances, with attendees actively participating by singing along and performing choreographies. The palpable excitement in the packed hall underscored the deep connection and familiarity Algerian youth have with the K-pop genre, blurring the lines between performers and the audience.

Ambassador Min Kyung-tae of the Republic of Korea in Algeria expressed his delight at the strong community of Algerian K-pop enthusiasts. He highlighted K-pop's international reach, citing its ability to transcend borders and unite people globally. The Ambassador noted that K-pop serves as a gateway to broader Korean culture, encouraging the discovery of the Korean language, films, dramas, and gastronomy through learning lyrics and practicing choreographies. He conveyed his hope that such programs would strengthen the friendship and understanding between the Algerian and Korean peoples.

The festival included a competition showcasing local talent in both singing and dancing categories. Dina Sirine Khiari was named the winner in the singing category, while Ahlem Zerrouk secured the prize for dancing. Additional audience awards were presented to Hanen Soltani, the Dream Zone troupe, and Djamila Derrahi. This K-pop festival is a key component of the ongoing Korean Week, which also features events such as a K-Food culinary experience, a Korean oral expression contest, a conference on future cooperation strategies, and a K-Story film festival, further promoting cultural exchange in Algeria.
