Algiers – On the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, the Palestinian people have reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to establishing an independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital.
Speaking from Algiers, Fayez Abu Aita, the Palestinian Ambassador to Algeria, emphasized the resilience of the Palestinian people in the face of ongoing challenges. He stated that despite decades of displacement, violence, and destruction since the Nakba, the Palestinian determination to achieve self-determination remains unbroken.
“The Balfour Declaration remains a symbol of historical injustice,” Ambassador Abu Aita stated. “Yet, it also serves as a reminder of the enduring strength and resolve of the Palestinian people. We will not relinquish our legitimate right to establish our own sovereign state on our ancestral lands.”
He further highlighted the ongoing efforts to garner international support for the Palestinian cause and to hold accountable those responsible for the continued suffering of the Palestinian population. The Ambassador reiterated the importance of a just and lasting solution based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
The anniversary of the Balfour Declaration serves as a poignant reminder of the unfinished struggle for Palestinian self-determination and the urgent need for a comprehensive and equitable resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Palestinian people continue to look towards a future where they can live in peace, security, and dignity within their own independent state.
