Algeria’s Public Sector Industrial Output Surges in Q2 2025

Algiers, November 7, 2025 – Algeria’s public sector industrial output experienced a significant upswing in the second quarter of 2025, according to newly released data. Production rose by 6.3%, a marked improvement compared to the 3.8% growth recorded during the same period in 2024.

The National Statistics Office reported that nearly all sectors contributed to this positive trend. The energy sector demonstrated robust growth, registering a 9.2% increase, closely mirroring the 10.2% growth observed in the second quarter of the previous year.

After four quarters of stagnation or moderate decline, the hydrocarbon sector saw a positive shift, posting a 1.5% increase in Q2 2025. This growth was primarily driven by the crude oil and natural gas production branch (+3.0%) and the refining branch (+6.2%).

The mining and quarrying sector also showed improvement, with a 1.2% increase in production during the second quarter, reversing a 3.7% decline in the previous quarter. This marks a continuation of the upward trend seen in 2023 and 2024.

The production of building materials witnessed a substantial rise, increasing by 16.7% during the same period, solidifying the positive results observed since the first quarter of 2024.

The chemical industries also experienced a rebound, recording a 2.5% positive change, a significant improvement compared to the 11.1% decline in the preceding quarter.

Data indicates continued strong performance in the leather and wood sectors, with respective growth rates of 40.7% and 131.6%, significantly exceeding the results achieved in the previous quarter (13.7% and 91.1% respectively).

Conversely, some sectors experienced declines, although at a lesser rate than in the previous quarter. The metallurgical, iron, mechanical, electrical, and electronics industries saw a decrease of 1.8%, while the food industries declined by 4.7%, and the textile sector contracted by 10.4%.
