Finance Minister: 2026 Budget Prioritizes Social Welfare

Algiers – The 2026 Finance Law reinforces the state’s social character, allocating 6000 billion DZD for social transfers, according to the Minister of Finance. The announcement highlights the government’s commitment to social support amidst ongoing economic reforms.

Economic experts suggest that the 2026 Finance Bill contains several new provisions designed to stimulate Algeria’s major development objectives. It arrives during a new phase of national economic transition, requiring a delicate balance between preserving the state’s social safety net and ensuring robust financial and monetary resources outside the hydrocarbon sector.

Proposed amendments from the National People’s Assembly’s Finance Committee are viewed as part of a gradual, comprehensive reform vision. These aim to advance comprehensive and sustainable national economic development projects, spearheaded by President Tebboune. The goals include improving the efficiency of public revenue collection, maintaining the social and solidarity-based character of the Algerian state by supporting vulnerable populations, improving the investment climate, and establishing strategic partnerships across various national sectors. This approach seeks to ensure sustained and accelerated national growth.

The 2026 Finance Bill was presented before the members of the National People’s Assembly, with Speaker Ibrahim Boughali presiding over the session. Finance Minister Abdelkrim Boualzard emphasized the key financial and legislative measures included in the bill, stressing its objectives of promoting national economic and social development and ensuring the stability of public finances.

The measures indicate that the 2026 Finance Bill not only maintains social equilibrium but also lays the groundwork for sustainable economic growth based on diversifying income sources and strengthening productive structures. The Parliament’s support is crucial for this economic transition, ensuring it does not compromise the state’s social dimension.

Discussions among members of the National People’s Assembly reflected a rational and conscious approach to the content of the draft law.
