Geneva – The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a strong appeal for the immediate and sustained reopening of all border crossings into the Gaza Strip, including the Rafah crossing.
The international health body emphasized the critical need for unimpeded access to the territory to ensure the delivery of essential medical supplies, humanitarian aid, and personnel. The WHO highlighted the deteriorating health situation within Gaza, exacerbated by limited access and ongoing challenges.
“The closure of border crossings severely restricts the ability to provide adequate healthcare to the population of Gaza,” a WHO spokesperson stated. “We call on all parties to facilitate the safe and continuous passage of medical assistance and personnel into the region.”
The organization underscored the importance of a functioning healthcare system in Gaza, particularly in light of existing vulnerabilities and the potential for disease outbreaks. The WHO stressed that the unrestricted flow of medical supplies and personnel is crucial to maintaining essential health services and preventing further deterioration of the health situation.
The call for the reopening of the border crossings comes amid growing concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The WHO reiterated its commitment to working with partners to address the health needs of the population and to advocate for policies that promote access to healthcare for all.
The situation in Gaza requires immediate attention and coordinated action to ensure the well-being of its residents. The WHO remains dedicated to supporting efforts to improve health outcomes and to advocate for the rights of all individuals to access essential healthcare services.
