Algiers, November 10, 2025 – Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjjal, received a high-level delegation from General Electric (GE) of the United States today. The meeting focused on exploring avenues for expanding partnerships and cooperation between the American corporation and Algeria’s energy sector, particularly with Sonelgaz, the national electricity and gas company.
The GE delegation was led by Joseph Anis, CEO of Energy Services for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa at GE Vernova. Discussions took place at the Ministry headquarters in Algiers, with the participation of key ministry officials.
Minister Adjjal emphasized the Algerian government’s strong focus on the energy and renewable energy sectors, highlighting their critical role in achieving sustainable development. He noted that this ambition necessitates careful selection of partners, expressing satisfaction with the existing partnership between Sonelgaz and General Electric. Adjjal described this collaboration as a model for American and foreign investors in general.
“The energy sector is a cornerstone of Algeria’s sustainable development strategy,” Minister Adjjal stated. “We are committed to fostering strong partnerships that contribute to the advancement of our energy goals.”
Joseph Anis lauded the level of cooperation between GE and the Ministry, represented by Sonelgaz. He expressed GE’s strong desire to broaden this collaboration, emphasizing Sonelgaz’s position as a key and reliable partner. Anis affirmed the importance of developing this partnership further, particularly over the next five years, to meet the evolving demands of the energy market. “We see significant opportunities for growth and innovation in Algeria’s energy sector,” Anis added.
The discussions signal a potential deepening of Algeria-U.S. collaboration in the energy sector, with a focus on leveraging GE’s expertise to support Algeria’s renewable energy ambitions and overall energy infrastructure development.
